May 26, 2001: Sean is at the Olympic Training center for a National Team training camp for the next few days!

June 16, 2001: There is information posted at USAG about the 2001 Gym Jam... the new vault WILL be used. Sean will begin the competition on Pommel Horse, going second following Todd Thornton. Also, we have had some emails asking if sean and family was hit by floods in houston. At this point, we have heard that they have not been hit to the extreame, and they are all fine. Thats all we can report, plus this is not seans official website and we don't have contact with sean!

June 25, 2001: Sean is on the cover of Technique magazine for USA Gymnastics. As well as an Article about his rise to the top I believe is in there!

July 1, 2001: Sean did a pretty good job yesterday at the gym jam, considering he didn't compete all events. Sean placed 7th (24.750) out of the pre-qualified athletes, 4th on pommel (8.050), 1st on rings (9.350), 6th on PBars (7.350), and didn't compete the other 3 events.

July 3, 2001: The reason Sean didn't compete all around at the recent gym jam is because of a small strain in his back. We have been told it's nothing serious and he will be in for nationals!

July 11, 2001: Sean is at International Gymnastics Camp this week along with the rest of his "gang"

August 1, 2001: The start lists were posted at USAG. Although they aren't up for some odd reason. Sean will be starting on vault (if my memory is right) I will have more news about it tomorrow!

On his third event, High Bar sean did Kovacs, half Takemoto to immediate triple and fell forwards. His score was 8.400. He has now fallen to 2nd place to Jason Furr. On Floor sean did a layout front full to layout front to double front, round 1 1/2 to tuck front full to Rudi, tucked full-in out of bounds. His score was 9.325. He has regained his lead. On Pommel horse Sean had a clean routine to score an 8.400. He's still in 1st. Sean had a VERY solid rings routine to score a 9.350. Sean is in the lead going into Finals!

August 10th, 2001 - NATIONALS-FINALS: Sean got off to a great start on parallel bars by doing kip L, giant, dble pike between, peach hand, double tuck, basket uprsie, back toss double pike dismount with a small tiny hop! He scored a 9.550!!! He kept his lead and is now over 1 point ahead of 2nd place brett mcclure! On Sean's second event he was on High Bar. He did giant full spin on 1-arm inbar stalder, heal jam, highlighted with Kovacs, blind change, into a half takamoto immediately into his dismount which was a triple back, in which he fell forward and put his hands down. He scored an 8.575. He still maintains the lead only now by less then a point! On Floor Sean did Fronthandspring front full front bounder double front, punch front full, punch front full Rudy, then he did russians on the floorm RO arabian tuck, finishes with RoundOff, Flip Flop Full-in STUCK LANDING!! His score was 9.275. He is still in the lead. On pommel horse Sean got an 8.650. He is still in the lead and still by only under a point! On rings sean did a nice back roll to cross, press to maltese, back uprise to maltese (flat), press handstand, front giant front giant hand, back giant to 1/1 twisting double layout. His score was 9.600. The sixth and final rotation sean did a HUGE vault. Took a small step forward, yet is pumping his fist in the air and waving to the crowd, knowing that he just won, his first national title! SEAN MADE THE WORLD TEAM!!!!! The World Team is: Sean Townsend, Brett McClure, Steve McCain, Raj Bhavsar, Guard Young, Paul Hamm. 1st Alternet is Todd Thornton. Sean's Brother!!!!!

Heading into the final rotation of the All Around, Sean was right where he needed to be for a medal, two slip ups on the high bar kept him from the podium. Three Days later, in the Individual Event Finals, Sean got the color he came for. Scoring a 9.7 on the Parallel Bars, Sean became the first man ever from the United States to Win the PBars at the Worlds! Congrats Sean!
