~ Welcome ~
Eddie Umphrey grew up in the shadows of his older brother, 1996 Olympian, Chainey Umphrey. He was born on June 8, 1983, by that time his older brother was already 13th, and getting ready to make a name for himself. Eddie watched as Chainey competed at the 1989 world championships at age 19, and then as he went on to compete in the 1996 Olympic Games. Four years later, Eddie began to make a name for himself. He qualifed to the USA National Championships. In 2002 Eddied signed to be a member of the Michigan Wolverines. Eddie spent the next four years with the University of Michigan, training and competing. Although there were injuries and frustrations along the way, Eddie helped them come out on top. As Eddie competed in his last NCAA Championships in 2005 he set his sites on the NCAA Floor Exercise Title. Eddie placed third at the meet, and made it known that his career was only just beginning. He is now training alongside the team in Michigan as he changes his focus over to USA Gymnastics and his goals of making the National Team. While somewhat disappointed, yet using it as a motivation for next year, Eddie did not qualify to nationals in 2005. He is back in the gym refocused on new routines and new skills as he looks on to the 2006 season! This website was created to support Eddies career as a gymnast and as a way for Eddie to interact with his fans. Please sign the guestbook and let us know you stopped by!
